Managing Noise in Utility Scale Energy Storage Projects Key Challenges and Practical Approaches
2026-06-18
As energy storage systems are increasingly deployed closer to load centers, including peri-urban and residential areas, compliance with local noise regulations has become an important consideration for project permitting and stakeholder acceptance. Understanding noise sources and implementing effective mitigation measures have therefore become key aspects of utility-scale energy storage project development.
At Energy Storage Summit Germany 2026, AlphaESS shared its latest advancements in noise control, including its systematic approach to noise management and intelligent low-noise liquid cooling technology.
Understanding Noise Sources in BESS Installations
During a dedicated session, Michael Steininger-Yang, Managing Director of AlphaESS Germany, provided an in-depth analysis of primary noise sources in battery energy storage systems (BESS), covering transformer electromagnetic noise, PCS switching noise, and auxiliary cooling system noise.
To address these challenges, AlphaESS introduced a full lifecycle noise management framework encompassing component selection, system layout, and operation and maintenance (O&M) strategies—offering a practical, engineering-driven approach to noise control throughout project development and operation.

Practical Experience from Real-World Projects
The presentation also highlighted several project examples from Germany, demonstrating AlphaESS's expertise in tackling noise challenges across various application scenarios. These included environmentally sensitive sites subject to stringent regulations, as well as industrial locations required to meet strict noise limits to minimize community disturbance. By combining low-noise liquid cooling, optimized equipment selection, and project-specific acoustic engineering, AlphaESS successfully met demanding noise standards while ensuring reliable system performance.
These deployments reflect the company's expertise in supporting projects where noise control is a critical requirement.
In addition to sharing its latest noise management practices, AlphaESS announced that its next-generation utility-scale product, the Aster 6260, will be officially launched at ees Europe 2026 in Munich from June 23–25. The launch will include a full technical presentation, and visitors will have the opportunity to experience the product firsthand at the AlphaESS booth.
From Stuttgart to Munich, AlphaESS continues to advance the energy transition through technological innovation and looks forward to connecting with industry partners at ees Europe 2026.
